HDBASET

What is HDBaseT?

HDBaseT is a global standard for the transmission of ultra-high-definition video and audio, Ethernet, controls, USB, and up to 100W of power over a single long-distance cable. By consolidating multiple signal types into one cable, HDBaseT simplifies installations and reduces cable clutter.

This technology is widely used in professional AV, education, digital signage, and residential environments for its reliability, efficiency, and clean infrastructure.

How It Works

HDBaseT technology uses a single Cat5e/6/6a/7 cable to transmit uncompressed video and audio, control signals (IR, RS-232), Ethernet, USB, and power over distances up to 100 meters (328 ft).

HDBaseT 3.0 adds support for:

/ 01

4K@60Hz 4:4:4 uncompressed video

/ 02

HDR formats: HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HLG

/ 03

eARC/ARC for advanced audio return

/ 04

Gigabit Ethernet and USB 2.0

/ 05

Power over HDBaseT (PoH) up to 100W

This single-cable solution dramatically simplifies AV setup, reduces cost, and improves reliability in complex systems.

Application Scenarios for BZBGEAR HDBaseT Products

Conference Room AV Integration with Peripheral Support

  • A modern boardroom needs to connect user laptops (USB-C and HDMI) to a central display and shared USB peripherals (camera, speakerphone, keyboard).

Recommended Products: BG-EXH-4KC7

This HDBaseT 3.0 extender/switcher enables users to switch between USB-C and HDMI inputs while extending USB 3.0, Ethernet, and control signals up to 100 meters over Cat6a/7. PoC simplifies power delivery, ideal for clean boardroom setups.

How it Works:

HDBaseT is an excellent solution for streamlining boardroom connectivity. In the setup pictured above, our BG-OMNITALK-PRO speakerphone is connected to a laptop for conferencing. The laptop is linked to our BG-EXH-4KC7 extender via HDMI and USB, which transmits audio, video, and data over a single CAT cable to the receiver unit at the display side. Additionally, a USB connection from our ADAMO camera feeds into the system, with video output delivered to the display through HDMI.

Lecture Hall AV Transmission Over Long Distances

  • A university lecture hall needs to connect a podium source to a projector or display 100 meters away with a USB for camera input and control.

Recommended Products: BG-EXH-100C6

Supports full-bandwidth uncompressed 4K video, USB extension, control, Ethernet, and two-way audio return. Ideal for academic AV environments.

How it Works:

In the diagram below, our BG-EXH-100C6 is shown in use within a lecture hall environment, providing a seamless, plug-and-play experience for instructors. A laptop is connected to the transmitter unit via HDMI, with the signal sent over a single CAT cable to the receiver. From there, the receiver outputs the video to a projector using HDMI, ensuring a simple and reliable setup for presentations.

Classroom or Training Room with Wall Connectivity

  • A classroom requires an elegant, wall-integrated AV input solution for instructors and guest presenters.

Recommended Products: BG-EXH-70UCWP-W

This in-wall unit supports HDMI and USB-C input and transmits the signal up to 70 meters (1080p) or 40 meters (4K), with RS-232 control. Ideal for smart classrooms and clean installations.

How it Works:

In the example below, the BG-EXH-70UCWP-W is utilized in a training or conference room to streamline connectivity for users. Once the wall plate is installed, users can effortlessly connect their devices by plugging in an HDMI or USB cable, with the unit automatically managing signal transmission over a single CAT cable. On the display end, the receiver outputs high-quality video to the screen via HDMI, while analog audio is seamlessly directed to the room’s speaker system, ensuring clear and consistent sound throughout the space.

Retail AV Distribution – Central Source to Multiple Zones

  • A retail store wants to distribute 4K video from multiple sources to multiple displays across the space with switching and control.

Recommended Products: BG-UM44-150L-KIT

Route up to four sources to four displays with integrated HDBaseT output. EDID management ensures compatibility, and downscaling enables support for mixed display resolutions.

How it Works:

The BG-UM44-150L-KIT is shown here in a retail storefront setup. In this example, it is configured with one input and two displays for simplicity, but it is capable of supporting up to four inputs and four displays. This versatile matrix system receives HDMI signals from source devices, routes them through the matrix (main unit), and transmits them over CAT cables to the receivers. The receivers then deliver the HDMI signals to the connected displays, ensuring high-quality video distribution across multiple screens.
